Most years, I eagerly anticipate the PyCon 5k, with hopes of victory dancing in my head. This year it was not to be. I haven't had the benefit of numerous fast VIRS races early in the year, I was dogged with lack of training options in Haida Gwaii and strange injuries in Invermere. I rallied the strength the actually *do* the race (which was in question) and managed to hold a decent pace. I ran in 4th place for most of the run in sight of all the others. At the turn around, I was able to fight back and catch one runner and held 3rd for most of the return, but got passed by someone else whom I hadn't seen in the last few hundred meters. I was wiped and he earned the win. On one hand, 4th isn't bad. On the other, I was beaten by more Pythonistas than I had been in the previous 3 years combined. :( Plus, last year's victory wasn't properly recorded due to the chip problems, so I still haven't had a clean win announced at the morning session :( There is always next year.
